Education and Professional Background

Dr. Peter Doherty is a highly skilled clinician with extensive experience in surgical and restorative implant dentistry. He graduated with a scholarship from Trinity College Dublin in 2003 and began his career as a House Officer at Dublin Dental Hospital, gaining hands-on experience across multiple dental specialties.

Dr. Doherty later transitioned into private practice in Ireland, focusing on restorative dentistry and sedation, before moving to the North East of England. There, he spent five years working in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Newcastle General Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital. This experience marked the beginning of his journey into implant dentistry, further strengthened by a postgraduate certificate in Implant Dentistry at Newcastle Dental Hospital, where he graduated with merit in 2011.

In 2016, Dr. Doherty co-founded 3Dental, a private practice and dental laboratory in Dublin. The clinic has since expanded to four locations across Ireland. Now, he focuses exclusively on dental implants, finding immense satisfaction in helping patients restore both their smiles and their confidence. He is also a dedicated mentor, actively lecturing and supporting the professional growth of younger implant dentists at his practices in Dublin, Limerick, and Galway.

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Peter Doherty has interests in the laboratory end of implant restorations, single tooth immediate load in the aesthetic zone, bone and soft tissue grafting techniques, digital workflows in implantology, guided surgery, and full arch surgery – with a particular focus on atrophic maxillary cases using grafting, zygomatic implants, pterygoid implants, palatal approach, and trans sinus implants to achieve predictable outcomes in otherwise untreatable cases, delivering results to patients as efficiently as possible.

Dr. Doherty is a convert to digital dentistry and passionate about facially driven prosthetic planning – planning and restoring all his full arch cases digitally in house using a face scanner, IOS and photogrammetry.
