From June 2nd to 4th, 2025, Barcelona once again opened its doors to dental professionals from around the world for another edition of the ZAGA Course. Hosted at the World Trade Center, this comprehensive three-day program brought together clinicians eager to deepen their expertise in the rehabilitation of the severely atrophic maxilla through the Zygoma Anatomy-Guided Approach (ZAGA).

Developed by Dr. Carlos Aparicio, the ZAGA Concept has become a global standard in zygomatic implantology, and this edition of the course, supported by over 25 years of experience, offered a practical and evidence-based perspective into the technique. The educational team was also joined by Dr. Zahi Khouri (ZAGA Center Adelaide), whose participation contributed valuable guidance during the hands-on sessions with Dental 3D Models.

The entire course was supported by AI-powered simultaneous translation, allowing seamless participation for clinicians from around the world.

Participants ZAGA Course June 2025

Day 1: ZAGA Concept, Surgical Procedure, and Soft Tissue Management

The first day of the course introduced participants to the foundational elements of the ZAGA Concept. Through in-depth lectures, attendees explored how to adapt surgical techniques to the specific anatomical needs of each patient.

This was followed by a detailed presentation on surgical protocols and a session focused on soft tissue management, essential for long-term implant success. Discussions covered strategies for preserving biological stability and minimizing complications from the very first stage of planning.

The day concluded with a hands-on session, where participants began practicing the implant placement on Dental 3D Models to apply the concepts in a practical setting.

Day 2: Complications, ORIS Criteria, and Clinical Discussion

The second day continued with advanced theoretical sessions. Participants delved deeper into the ZAGA Concept and examined potential complications that may arise in zygomatic implant cases. One of the highlights was the session dedicated to the ORIS Success Code, a key tool for evaluating the functional, aesthetic, and biological outcomes of full-arch rehabilitations. The day wrapped up with a session focused on practicing techniques using Dental 3D Models.

The day concluded with the traditional ZAGA Social Event and Diploma Ceremony, held in the evening.

Day 3: Hands-On Training with Dental 3D Models

The final morning was fully devoted to hands-on practice. Using high-fidelity Dental 3D Models, participants applied the concepts learned in previous sessions in a safe, controlled, and highly realistic environment. This training allowed attendees to refine their technique and gain tactile confidence, essential steps before transitioning to live clinical cases.

To conclude the experience, a book signing session was held for Advanced Zygomatic Implants: The Zaga Concept. Several participants chose to make a donation in exchange for a signed copy, contributing to a final amount of €2.589, which will be dedicated to supporting ZAGA Social initiatives. We are especially grateful to Dr. Hidehito Kondo, Dr. Murugavel C, Dr. Akiharu Shibata, Dr. Artur Rasinski Emilii Plater, Dr. Kei Tokura, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hai, Dr. Wojciech Caferko, Dr. Çağasan Pirpir, and Dr. Eugenio Canepa for their generous support.

The AI-powered simulation and translation tools also contributed significantly, with a solid average score of 9.13/10, ensuring that all attendees, regardless of language, could fully engage in the learning experience.

Beyond The Course: Edentulism 2025

Immediately after the course, many participants stayed in Barcelona for the Edentulism Conference 2025, the largest global event dedicated to full-arch rehabilitation. The conference served as a perfect continuation of the course, offering high-level lectures, cutting-edge innovations, and access to the international leaders shaping the future of edentulous patient care.

Attending both events gave clinicians the opportunity to immerse themselves in a full week of advanced education, networking, and growth; a truly unique experience that combined theory, practice, and inspiration.
